The interview was short and Keegan was grateful Augustus had agreed to the meeting. Keegan stayed in the room to make sure Augustus behaved.

Fiona was a pro. She answered questions and demonstrated she actually did have ample accounting knowledge to take on a junior position.

When the meeting was complete, Augustus asked Fiona to wait in the lobby so he could quickly catch up with his brother.

“Keegan, I’m not going to hire her.”

Shocked, Keegan questioned Augustus’ reasoning.

Augustus bit the end of his pen, and stared at his brother for a minute. “Why don’t you hire her? Your real estate business makes more money than Hanover Technologies.”

“I can’t hire her if I’m going to keep fucking her,” said Keegan with a shrug.

Augustus laughed. “I’m not hiring her because you’re doing more than having sex with her. You like her, and I am not getting in the middle of another one of your crazy relationships. You’re on your own.”

“What are you talking about?” Keegan yelled. “I don’t… she’s not… That’s not even…” he couldn’t finish the sentence.

Augustus was right.

Keegan didn’t even say goodbye as he waked to the lobby to meet Fiona. He’d have to come up with another plan.

This girl is a survivor. You need to cut ties. Let her live for six months at the Ritz, and then she can figure it out on her own. Wait… No. I can’t do that… He couldn’t even win a battle in his mind.

She had no family and nobody to take care of her. He couldn’t just write her off.

Fiona sat in the lobby on the sleek white couches with her hands folded in her lap.

“So…?” she asked eagerly.

“I’m taking you back to your hotel for now,” he said, and grabbed her hand.

On the way to the hotel, he didn’t talk and he sensed Fiona’s uneasiness as she fidgeted and kept looking at him like she wanted to say something.

The driver pulled in front of the Ritz to drop them off and quickly jumped out to open the door for Keegan and Fiona. Keegan stepped out and extended his hand to Fiona. She held his strong hand as they walked to the elevator.

As soon as the metal doors of the elevator closed, Keegan pushed Fiona against the wall and kissed her fervently, relieving the sexual tension that had built up all afternoon.
